Navigating 2020 upon the Webex Team since a New Grad
Webex was the reason why I made a decision to join Cisco.
The notion of transforming the place of work and re-imagining what this means to collaborate with others is what initially excited myself about the product. WHEN I viewed a demo of Webex throughout a recruiting occasion at Cisco’s headquarters, I gazed upward at the big Webex boards – fitted with all of this new technology – and has been inside awe of how forward-thinking it had been. I felt like i had just gotten a glimpse of the future Cisco and – was leading that vision.
When We joined Cisco like a fresh grad in 2019, living was very, completely different. My mornings contains driving 20 mins to your headquarters in San Jose, California, grabbing cereal from the operating office kitchen, and preparing to talk with my group in the conference area for the daily standup meeting. I had completed my grasp’ just; s level at Stanford University close by, and I was thrilled to be focusing on the most recent features for Cisco Webex.
Small did I understand, however, that inside a few months, the continuing future of MY place of work would change. Working from home had not been how I likely to spend nearly all my first season out of college. I had spent months used to office lifetime only to need to abandon it shortly after. It had been a bit stressful initially, but Cisco played a large role in assisting ease that transition, as well.
The executive leadership group began doing weekly (today bi-weekly) company-wide Check-Ins to speak right to employees and response questions we had. They also gave us a couple of days off – now referred to as “A Day for me personally” – to concentrate on ourselves! It may not have already been how I prepared to invest my first calendar year at Cisco, but it provided me a complete new perspective of what sort of business is run, and supplied a sense of convenience that Cisco’s leadership supported us of these trying times.
For my team, the transition to working at home was seamless relatively; we had recently been using Webex on a daily basis to collaborate with groups around the world, and as developers, we knew the merchandise and out inside. The task came, however, when an incredible number of our clients started working at home aswell.
Like Webex visitors spiked, my group had to reevaluate our priorities and renew our concentrate. New customers brought using them new problems and new requirements, also it felt like each day there is a various mountain to climb.
Thes challenging since it was, it had been incredibly rewarding also. To start to see the product I have been working so difficult on used by thousands of people all over the world was incredible. Just how many new grads could state this experience has been had by them?
When our CEO Chuck Robbins shared a movie of how Webex had been used for connecting hospital patients making use of their families throughout a Check-In, I could not need been prouder.
“Wow,” I considered to myself, “I played a job in this!”
Real, the video didn’t highlight the precise features We had worked on, but I am, needless to say, section of a group and among the many talented engineers focusing on the Webex system. It left me incredibly pleased with being a small section of that and the achievement we’ve shared.
When my 1st Ciscoversary rolled around, A while was taken by me to reflect. On my personal computer, I keep an up-to-date list of accomplished duties each day. I perform this in part since it makes my weekly status email messages to my manager simpler to write, but furthermore, I discover that amidst all the chaos of 2020, it’s simple to forget what we have achieved.
Thes We looked through my set of accomplishments – We couldn’t help but experience grateful that I started my profession here.
Most new grads never reach work on something thus impactful straight out there of university, and there’s zero doubt in my own mind that my knowledge may have only happened from Cisco.
