I’ve detested Microsoft&rsquo always;s “optional, non-security, C/D 7 days” patches because they’re confusing, an easy task to install accidentally, solve any pressing difficulties rarely, and introduce however more bugs potentially.

Imagine what? They’re back.

As promised last month, Microsoft has once again started pushing them away.

In the twist, they’re only on offer via Windows Update (or even for manual download). Which means organizations using upgrade servers have to jump through many hoops to obtain them distributed. Couple of will bother. That’s OK. 7 days patches aren&rsquo these C/D;t designed for stable corporate devices. They’re for seekers and lovers, along with unsuspecting normal users that get sucked in since beta testers.

Maybe the cruelest irony: Microsoft halted releasing these patches back March for an excellent cause, saying at the period:

We have already been evaluating the general public health circumstance, and we understand why is impacting our clients. In reaction to these challenges we have been prioritizing our concentrate on security up-dates. Starting in-may 2020, we have been pausing all optional non-protection releases (C and D improvements) for several supported versions of Home windows client and server items (Windows 10, version 1909 down through Home windows Server 2008 SP2).

There is not any change to the monthly safety updates (B release – Update Tuesday); these will continue as planned to make sure business continuity also to keep our clients productive and protected.

Now it would appear that Microsoft provides re-evaluated the general public health situation and, within lighting of our great strides within defeating the pandemic, determined that the old methods should return.

of July 20 and 21 As, we have 33 new patches in the Microsoft Update Catalog.  They consist of:

• KB 4559004 – the 2020-07 Cumulative Update Preview for Win10 versions 1909, 1903; and KB 459003 for 1809 and Server 2019.
• KB 4562900 – the Cumulative Update Preview for .Internet Framework 3.5 and 4.8 for Win10 variations 1903 and 1909; and a small number of comparable previews for other variations of .NET, Server and windows.

All of these patches should come in Windows Update (Begin > Settings > Revise & Security) as individual entries with Download and Install hyperlinks. Theoretically, you won’t obtain the offered Preview patch installed if you don’t click on install and Download.

In my checks, though, clicking to Resume Improvements on a Win10 1909 program installed the .Internet patch. I did not really click on Download and install. The Preview installed itself simply.

wednesday morning As of very earlier, I don’t start to see the Cumulative Up-date Preview offered on some of my Earn10 1909 machines. They don’t appear while working wushowhide, either. I&rsquo maybe; m lucky just.
