Distorting the reality: The roots of on-line political disinformation campaigns
On today’s bout of the Security Stories podcast we discuss the annals of online manipulation promotions, today to impact political elections and how they’re used.
To do that, we welcome Theresa Payton back again, the initial female CIO of the White author and Home of ‘Manipulated: In the Cyberwar to Hijack Elections and Distort the Reality’.
Joining us will be Nick Biasini also. Nick is a risk researcher within Cisco Talos and published a document called  recently;‘The BLOCKS of political disinformation campaigns’. The paper is section of Talos’ practical research into election safety.
We chat about a few of the plain items that shocked Theresa when she has been doing her analysis into manipulation tactics. And Nick discusses the amplification methods which are used to spread specific lies online. Plus, we discuss what you can do to curb these strategies with just a few days to go before USA general election.
It is a fascinating discussion really, and whilst it highlighted the huge challenges that we’re facing at the brief moment, Nick and Theresa shared a whole lot of great here is how we are able to overcome them.
